ANOTHER FIRST TO CANTERBURY
The Canterbury Rugby Union has led the country in bringing new ideas of coaching and development to the sport. This week-end, it will achieve another first.
The union is holding a school for coaches at Lincoln’ College, with about 90 people expected. It will be the largest and most comprehensive school held by a provincial union. Nearly all clubs in the Canterbury area will send two coaches, support being particularly strong from country clubs. SELECTORS PRESENT
Also present will be open grade selectors from last season, while the Buller, West Coast, Mid-Canterbury, and South Canterbury unions are each sending two observers. The chairman of the All Black selection panel, Mr J. J. Stewart, will attend from Saturday afternoon, and the chairman of the New Zealand union’s coaching committee, Mr 1. M. H. Vodanovich, will be an observer. The school will begin on Friday night and continue until Sunday afternoon, with most of the participants staying at Lincoln College.
Dr J. D. Stewart will be the course director and his assistants will include Messrs I. H. Penrose, M. C. Sullivan, P. D. Clark, R. H. Duff, M. J. Dixon and Dr D, S. Hart, and the two new Canterbury selectors, Messrs S. F. Hill and D. A. Arnold.
Soccer.—A delegation from the International Football Federation will visit Rhodesia in the next few weeks to investigate soccer in the country, according to the Rhodesian National Football Association. Rhodesia was suspended from the federation in 1970 on the ground of racial discrimination.
