“MISS CANTERBURY” CHOSEN

A roll of drums and a i fanfare of trumpets her- / aided the crowning of Miss 1 Miranda Hilton, aged 21, as “Miss Canterbury, j 1975,” at the James Hay , Theatre last evening.

Ann Preen, aged 19, “Miss Ashburton, 1975,” who was third. An overjoyed Miss Hilton said, after the crowning, that she was flabbergasted and very thrilled.”

Miss Hilton, whose vital statistics are 34-26-35, and who lists among her hobbies squash, modelling, cooking, and water ski-ing, is a secretary. She said that

taking part in the contest had helped her gain confidence and poise, but the real reason she had entered was because the money raised went to charity. When interviewed during the show, Miss Hilton admitted to being very nervous, but once it was over she said she looked forward to a year’s activities as “Miss Canterbury.”

The “Miss Canterbury” contestants paraded in swimsuits, day dresses, and evening gowns and were interviewed by Mr Bryant on stage.
