RACING Meneleus picked for Westland Handicap today

(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH. Meneleus. the runner-up to Audaciter at Reefton last Wednesday, is selected to win the Westland Handicap at Hokitika.

Meneleus' stocks for the first leg of the Westland Racing Club's T.A.B. double rose when it was announced yesterday that Bun Tuck, winner of the Kumara Gold Nuggets on Saturday, might drop out of today's race.

Meneleus does not win out of turn, but the last time he was successful was over 2000 metres—the distance of today’s race—at Hokitika in November.

On that occasion he beat Totara Maid and Ribeiro into the minor places. They wiil be among his rivals again today, but neither is likely to be as strongly backed as Eidi, which ran Bun Tuck close on Saturday. Of the others Greek Prince makes most appeal. His third at Reefton was an encouraging run after being off the scene for a moqth.

If the Hoteliers’ Handicap is chosen as the mission for Peter’s Pick that wiil probably settle the issue of favouritism for the second leg of the T.A.B. double. His strongest rivals might be Romio and Kowhai Glen. Selections:—
