R.Hellaby had bad year

The group net profit of R. and W. Hellaby, Ltd, for the year to September 30 was about half that for the previous year at $530,615, the directors say in a preliminary report.

A final dividend of s|c a share has been recommended, payable December 13, ex-dividend December 4, making an unchanged a share for the year. “It has been a particularly difficult trading year. Substantial losses on lamb marketing were incurred in the United Kingdom. “Beef trading was more difficult, on a falling market, and a reduction in throughput at the company’s two killing and processing plants because of stock retention and aftereffects of past seasons’ droughts all contributed to the substantial fall in profit,” the directors say.

The directors consider that in the circumstances the result is satisfactory.
