No tour by Salford

The leading British Rugby league club, Salford, has refused an invitation to make a short tour of New Zealand early next season. Mr D. G. Gaynor, the secretary-manager of the Canterbury Rugby League, said last evening that Salford would not be free of its club commitments until the middle of May. Its fixtures in this country were proposed to coincide with the switching on of the new floodlights at Carlaw Park, Auckland. Canterbury has nominated Messrs G. Menzies (West Coast) and M. W. Church (Wellington) as national selectors for 1975, and Messrs Menzies, Church and H. J. Walker (Canterbury) for the Southern Zone panel.
