Australians killed
Two Australian girls died in a collision three miles south of Fairlie about midday yesterday. The names of the girls, both aged about 20, have not been released.
The girls died when their rental car skidded to the wrong side of the road on a bend. The car and another car struck side-to-front.
An ambulance and a doctor from Fairlie went to the scene, but the girls were found to be dead.
The accident occurred on State Highway 8, between Washdyke and Fairlie, while the car was travelling towards Fairlie. It was raining and the road was slippery. The driver of the other car was treated for shock and minor cuts.
