Supreme Court BURGLARY CHARGE
Man found guilty Alfred John Oldham, aged 25. a tyre fitter, was found guilty by a jury in the Supreme Court yesterday on a charge of burglary of the i premises of the Reidrubber, Tyre Centre, Ltd, in Durham Street on June 21. Mr Justice Macarthur remanded Oldham in custody to October 25 for sentence. The jury took 20 minutes' to reach its verdict. Mr G. K. Panckhurst ap- ; peared for the Crown and. Mr M. J. Glue for Oldham ; who pleaded not guilty. Evidence was given that the company’s premises were broken into and an old cheque book was stolen from a desk drawer. At the time Oldham was employed by the company. The day after the burglary the police found Oldham in possession of a cheque made out for $4O which had come from the stolen cheque book. Oldham claimed that he had got the cheque from an unknown Maori in the Zetland Hotel. He later admitted to a detective that he had committed the burglary. Oldham denied in evidence making the admission.
