Snap election ‘not planned'

6V.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The Prime Minister (Mr Rowling) on Thursday dismissed rumours that he planned to call a snap election on December 7. Commenting on a statement in Auckland last night by the president of the National Party (Mr G. A. Chapman) that such an election was a strong possibility, Mr Rowling said he had also heard the rumours. There was no truth in; them, he said. “I certainly have no plans! to call an election,” Mr Rowling said. “There is no reason for one and I don’t even know what procedures would have to be followed, or time allowed.”

About a fortnight ago, Mr Rowling replied to rumours that a snap election might be called, by denying that an election was contemplated but saying he could not rule anything out. Today he said that no Prime Minister could state categorically that no election would be held. On present circumstances there was no call for an election, he said, but circumstances could change.
