U.K. general’s private army

(N.Z.P.A -Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, August 28.

The former N.A.T.O com-mander-in-chief, General Sir Walter Walker, says that his private citizens’ army, formed to take over Britain’s essential services in the event of a paralysing strike, may well have three million members by October. Sir Walter, who runs his organisation from his farm in Somerset, disclosed that he had changed the name of the group from Unison to Civil Assistance.

A General Election having been forecast for October. Sir Walter said that his members would be asking prospective Parliamentary candidates how they intended to defeat industrial disruption. General Walker has spoken of “the bovine apathy of Britain to the threat of Communism.”
