Cup final officials
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON
For the first time, the referee and two linesmen for this year’s Lion Chatham Cup soccer final at Queen Elizabeth II Park between Christchurch United and Wellington-Diamond United on Saturday, September 7, are from the same centre.
The New Zealand Referees’ Association yesterday named three Aucklanders — Messrs W. Munro, referee, and L. Coffman and A. Blackburn, linesmen — for this final.
For Mr Munro, who refereed last week’s Rothmans National League match at the Basin Reserve between Christchurch United and Wellington City, it will be his first cup final appointment. Both Messrs Coffman and Blackburn, two of the country’s most experienced referlees, have taken charge of finals.
Soccer.—Martin Dobson, the 26-year-old Burnley and England mid-field international, has joined Everton for a fee of about £300,000 —a record for a straight cash deal between British clubs. Burnley is redeveloping its Turf Moor ground.
