Uncertainty prevails on Australian markets
Investor hesitancy and a generally uncertain tone saw falls far outnumber rises in moderate turnover on Australian exchanges yesterday. B.H.P. was one of the biggest losers, dropping 30c to 540 c.
The losses of most financiers, property developers, and stores were only marginal, but the Bank of N.S.W, lost 15c and C.B.C. and A.N.Z. banks lost 10c each. Peko Wallsend and A.M.S. I fell 10c, C.R.A. was down 19c, and B.H. South was 'steady after its report that [the Lady Duchess phosphate project in North Queensland would be back in action two years ahead of schedule. Most other miners suffered only losses.
