Some recoveries on quiet Aust. markets
Share prices recovered from the downhill plunge of the last four sessions to close on a generally firmer note in quiet trading on Australian exchanges yesterday. All sectors of the market shared in the improvement, but an easier undercurrent was still evident at the close.
B.H.P. was 10c' firmer at 670 c and Amatil gained 5c at 180 c. C.S.R. and Lend Lease also improved. Some of the banks were weaker along with a few retailers. Comalco and C.U.B. were cut back heavily. On the mining boards, Poseidon stood out with a 20c jump to 400 c and Bougainville, C.R.A., PekoWallsend, W.M.C. and M.I.M. made healthy gains. B.H. South, Cons Goldfields and G.M.K. remained easier. In the oils, Ampol advanced 2c to 60c while A,A.R. and Woodside were steady. SYDNEY Sales.—Amatil, 180; Ampol, 53; Ansett, 68; A.W.A., 128; Assoc.
