Return to work at Kawerau
(N.Z. Press Association)
TAURANGA, July 3. Workers will return to work at the Kawerau and Kinleith pulp and paper mills and the Whakatane board mills tomorrow after the discharge today of Mr G. H. Andersen. Production at the Tasman pulp and paper mill and Caxton paper mill at Kawerau resumed at 4 p.m. today. A dispute over a safety factor resulted in about 24 paper-makers at the Caxton mill remaining on strike until a decision about the matter is reached at a meeting tomorrow morning. A late-aftemoon meeting of union delegates today in Whakatane unanimously recommended a return to work in the Whakatane board mills. Work resumed for boiler attendants at midnight tonight. Other workers are expected to return at the normal time in the morning.
Construction workers employed by Downer Comstock and Fletcher Bernard-Smith construction companies are expected to return to work at Kawerau tomorrow morning. About 450 Kaingaroa logging company workers will also return to work at Murupara in the morning, after a 24-hour stoppage.
