WESTPORT. April 22

The Westport Jaycees team won the debate against the North Canterbury chapter on Saturday by 272 points to 263. Westport successfully affirmed that New Zealand's scenerv was jts greatest asset, scoring 272 points to 263. The top speaker was B. Hack, of North Canterbury, with 79. followed by C. Warten (Westport), 78.

The Westport team comprised Warren (leader), H. Havill and C. Nicholson. If the local team can win its next debate against New Brighton it will be assured of a place in the final to be held at the regional conference of the North Canterbury and West Coast chapters at Mount Cook in June.
