Venues for cycling
Tne Canterbury Amateur Cycling Centre has no immediate intention of taking track raving away trom English Park. There have been widespread comments—none of them emanating from Canterbury cycling officials—that Deuton Park would become the cycling headquarters in Christchurch. But the annual general meeting of the Canterbury centre on Saturday requested that its track cycling committee formulate. for 1974-75. a programme incorporating English and Denton Parks and the Timaru Caledonian ground. There was virtually no dissent and the suggestion was that English Park should be used on Wednesday evenings and the other tracks at week-ends. 'Timaru would probably stage meetings monthly. The meeting also affirmed its application for the New Zealand grass track championships, and Will apply to stage them at Rangiora on February 1. and 2. The Canterbury grass irack championships will be field a ■ fortnight earlier. The centre also agreed it should again stage the South ' Island championships, on February 15-16, and would stage the Canterbury championships the week before. The national 100 km team time trial road championship was briefly discussed. In an effort to stimulate more interest. Mr W. S. Williams proposed it should be held the day after the Hope Gibbons teams’ race final, early in July. The proposal will be made to the national annual general meeting.
