Building too near edge
t.V.Z. Press Association) NELSON, April 21. A minor building infringement might lead to a prosecution by the Nelson City Council. The council had been told that a building under construction was between seveneighths of an inch and two inches too close to a side boundary at one corner. This infringement of the side yard requirement of sft was objected to by the neighbour who asked the council to take appropriate action. The Mayor (Mr R. A. McLennan) said that the neighbour had said he advised the builder when the foundations were being laid that they were too close to the boundary. Construction had continued to the stage where now the. ibuilding was largely com-, pleted. After the council was ad-1 I vised by the neighbour, the site was checked, and it was, found that, while the building was the correct sft away from the boundary, at one I corner it was about seven-,
[eighths of an inch too close.’ (The final cladding would i probably take it another inch or so even closer. A motion that the builders, be prosecuted provided the neighbour was willing to give evidence was carried.
