Four MiGs claimed by Kurds

Kurdish guerrillas shot down four Iraqi MiG fighter bombers and blew up four tanks in raging battles with Ba’athist troops yesterday, Radio Kurdistan said, according to reports from the Associated Press.

One Iraqi officer and more than 100 soldiers were killed in combat with Pesh Marga fighters who sustained several casualties, the radio said.

Three aircraft were shot down at Khalifan, where two tanks and personnel carriers were also destroyed, the Kurdishlanguage broadcast monitored in Teheran said.

One bomber was brought down in encounters nfear Dehok. The broadcast quoted Mustafa Barezani's irregulars as saying they saw the aircraft crash in a ‘hick ball of smoke.

The Dejok region was won by the Kurds, who inflicted 60 casualties at the cost of two Pesh Marga guerrillas dead and a few wounded, the broadcast said.
