Result of appeal delayed
The Christchurch United player. S. Sumner, who has served two matches of the seven-match suspension imposed on him by the Canterbury Football Association, will serve at least one more ■ before he even knows the’ result of his appeal to the’ national body against the sen-! tence. The appeal was heard by the N.Z.F.A. on Tuesday! evening and the committee 1 has requested the C.F.A. to; igive its reasons for imposing! ■a seven-week suspension, one! of the heaviest inflicted on a New Zealand player for many, years. The N.Z.F.A. secretary, Mr S. C, Goodman, said on! Thursday that a decision on [ the appeal would be made after the C.F.A. reply had been received; Sumner was sent off in the Canterbury area final of the Air New Zealand Cup between Christchurch United' and New Brighton at Rangers Park last month.
