RUBBISH BAG ADVICE

Official paper rubbish bags for Waimairi County Council collections a.re obtainable from many retail outlets in the county, according to the chairman (Mr D. B. Rich)..

Mr Rich was replying to a letter to “The Press” from “E. A. Logan,” who wrote: “I have just been informed that my recently purchased Kleensaks do not conform to Waimairi County ■Council requirements. They do not carry the council’s official bag stamp. I purchased these bags from my ‘local grocer. I have no car to get to the council offices.: There are apparently two types of Kleensaks on the i market, and I have pur-

chased ■ the wrong sort. The cost of replacing these otherwise identical Kleensaks will have to be met by me. I fully accept the conversion to Kleensaks, but feel that 52 sacks a year is insufficient. I telephoned the council and asked how many extra Kleensaks were sold above the allocated 52. 1 was asked why I wanted to know. I was told that the revenue from the Kleensaks went into general funds. Surely it should go towards the cost of supnlying the ratepayer with additional Kleensaks. It is about time the council conformed to the householders’ requirements.”

“Should your correspondent not be able to purchase them from the source from

which he has obtained extra bags, it is suggested that he ask the retailer to purchase a supply from the council office like many retailers have already dohe,” Mr Rich said. “The council has endeavoured to seek the co-opera-tion of retailers throughout the area in this regard, so that residents are not inconvenienced in the sahie way as your correspondent.” The official council Kleensaks were sold at a price that included the charge for collection. and the amount paid for the bag by the householders was credited to the refuse collection account, which met the costs- of the Kteensak and the charges for refuse collection,' said Mr Rich.
