Mr Scott off to Canada

Ihe chairman of Christchurch’s (Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (Mr R. S. Scott) has accepted an invitation for himself and his wife to visit Edmonton. Canada, next month, the venue for the 1978 Commonwealth Games.

“I'm definitely not inter-, ested in getting involved.” he said. “The start and end for me is putting forward thei concept. If it does not get off ‘

the ground it will be simply too bad.”

Mr Scott said it was probably too late to launch the scheme in 1975 and, he added, there was a danger, that it might be difficult to rekindle enthusiasm in 1976. "However, the key to the proposal is the attitude of athletics and swimming administrators, who may, of course, have other or better plans. Still, most of the administrators I have sounded out privately seem to be in favour.”

Mr Scott said he strongly believed that there would be much to be gained for sport, for New Zealand in general, and for closer contact between the peoples of New Zealand and those of other countries if the scheme did win the support of the Government. sports administrators. and the majority of New Zealanders.
