Bodies of slip
victims found
(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, April 19. Using winches, pumps, and chain-saws, a party of 20 men today recovered the bodies of three persons buried in the landslide at Lake Daniells.
The badly battered bodies were lifted opt by helicopter and taken to Christchurch for identification. The commander of the Greymouth police district (Chief Inspector T. V. Thomson) said it was fortunate that the three bodies were found almost together on the verge of a slip. “There remains about 90,000 tons of material still untouched,” he said.
The police were helped to sluice the material away by staff of the Forest Service, the West Coast Electric Power Board and the Ministry of Works.
One of the bodies was found on Wednesday by a private party which had gone to the lake with an N.Z.B.C. cameraman.
