“Mafia” pick own XV
The “Mafia” — the hardened and experienced forwards who formed the inner circle of the 1972-73 All Blacks—would dearly love to pick a team to play the New Zealand side chosen for the Australian tour in May and June. The big number of AH Blacks who were “pensioned off” at Athletic
Park on Wednesday greeted the news of their dismissals with a mixture of disbelief and 4erision. But they quickly recovered their composure and settled down to the task of picking a team from the also-rans, which they claimed could beat the new All Blacks. Their selection was:—W. F. McCormick; T. G. Mor-
rison, G. S. Thome, B. R. Ford; D. A. Hales, L. J. Jaffray; G. L. Colling; A. J. Wyllie; A. R. Sutherland, S. C. Strahan. A. M. Haden, A. I. Scown; J. D. Matheson, J. E. Black, K. K. Lambert.
All but two members of the “Mafia” XV have represented New Zealand—Morrison and Black.
