‘Greek reign of terror’

i Professor Mary Kaufman,' a professor of law at Antioch College, Ohio, has arrived in London after a fact-finding tour of Greece|with two other women; a; ■British barrister and a student leader; under the auspices of the League for'Democracy in Greece. They told reporters yester-j -day that there was reliable--evidence of the torture of! -political prisoners, including} students as young as 17.

That a schoolgirl, aged 17, had told her that she and another girl were taken to a military interrogation centre in Athens, where they were raped and subjected to an orgy by both men and women. “There is extensive use of electric shock treatment, deprivation of sleep. People ■ are forced to stand on one’leg for hours until they(drop, and then beaten,” Professor Kaufman said. • “It is all done to create a -climate of terror in which -people dare not criticise the’ 'military Government."
