(N.Z.P.A,-Reuter) WEST BERLIN. An American, J, Marsh, won three of the first five heats of this year’s trotting championship series on Tuesday to take a clear lead over his seven rivals. Marsh, who finished second and third in his other heats, amassed 49 points for the day’s competition. A Frenchman, Gz Masele, was next with 31 followed by the Australian, K. Brook (27), the New Zealander J. W. Smolensk! (26), the Canadian G. Gendron <2O), the Belgian G. Martens (19), the world title-holder, U. Thorensen, of Norway (18), and the Austrian A. Uebleis (15). Marsh was fortunate In the horses drawn for him by lot, each being among the most strongly fancied. The championship continues this week with five races each in Oslo and Paris, before the contestants return to West German tracks at the end of the week for the final races.
