All Black team surprise
“Shocks” and “sensational” were the words used at Athletic Park after the chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union (Mr J. L. Sullivan) announced the All Blacks last night. A. Leslie, of Wellington, considered by manv to be long overdue for All Black honours, was named captain of the team which will have 12 games in Australia and one in Fiji next month and in June. The team is:— Full-back.—J. F. Karam (Wellington). Three-quarters. — B. G. Williams (Auckland), G. B. Batty (Wellington), J. S. McLachlan (Auckland), B. J. Robertson (Counties), G. Kane (Waikato). Second five-eighths.—l. A. Hurst (Canterbury), J. E. Morgan (North Auckland). First five-eighths.—D. J. Robertson (Otago), O. D. Bruce (Canterbury).
Half-backs.—l. N. Stevens (Wellington), B. M. Gemmell (Auckland). Number eight.—A. R. (Wellington), captain.
Flankers. —L. Knight (Auckland), R. A. Barber (Southland), K. W. Stewart (Southland), K. A. Everleigh (Manawatu), I. A. Kirkpatrick (Poverty Bay). Locks.—P. J. Whiting (Auckland), J. A. Callesen (Manawatu).
