Hazardous street

Residents affected by traffic problems in Medbury Terrace and Harakeke Street will b’e consulted by the Waimairi County Council. Narrow, winding Medbury Terrace becomes hazardous when it is used for parking, and choices are to ban parking over most of its length, make it one-way from Clyde Road to Kotare Street, or to make it a cul-de-sac by closing the western end. The Ministry of Transport, a co'uncil meeting was told last evening, favours the closure. The Ministry considers that the footbridge on Harakeke Street is hazardous to vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians, and says that the alternative to widening would be to close it to motor vehicles.

The proposal will be put to the Riccarton Borough Council and to residents of Daresbury Lane, Rochdale Street and. Harakeke Street.
