STRANGLES OUTBREAK

Club takes precautions

The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club, which will hold the first night of , its Commonwealth Games meeting at Addington Race(way tomorrow, will make every endeavour to prevent : the spread of strangles, a disease at present affecting many horses in Canterbury. The club would spray the horse-stalls area with disinfectant before the meeting, said the secretary-manager of the club (Mr D. C. Parker) last evening. “In addition, the club’s veterinary surgeons will examine all horses before they are taken on to the course to make sure they are not infected," he said. The club will follow the same procedure for the second night of the meeting on January 24, as will the Canterbury Park Trotting Club, which will race on the same course on the evening of January 26.
