BANK PLAYING AN IMPORTANT PART

The Bank of New Zealand has been a major supporter of the tenth British Commonwealth Games. As well as providing many facilities to aid the Games organisation, it has also provided generous financial help.

It will be the only bank represented at Queen Elizabeth II Park. It will occupy one of the "futura" bubbles which the Games organisation has arranged to have placed at the Park. The bank also has a branch operating in the Games village. From January 25 until the end of the Games, the B.N.Z. will be operating a Games result service. The telephone number of this service is listed in the current telephone directory on the inside back cover. In conjunction with the telephone results service, results boards will be placed in the Savings Bank (Hereford Street) windows. Female personnel from the bank will assist the Games Organisation as

hostesses. They will be stationed at strategic points (V.I.P. hotels, Christchurch Airport, the Town Hall, Queen Elizabeth II park) during late January and early February to assist visitors to the city. Thirty-six girls from the B.N.Z. have accepted the invitation to participate in this scheme. Because of the escalating cost of the Games, the organising committee is hoping the sale of commemorative dollars will further boost finances. The B.N.Z. has sold almost 160,000 of these commemorative dollars. Coins were sold at the opening of Queen Elizabeth II Park and on the open day the following Sunday. The bank is the sponsor of the pre-Games track and

field meeting presented by the Toe H Amateur Track and Field Club. By providing financial assistance, advertising outlets, ticket sales personnel, administrative help and plenty of encouragement, the Bank of New Zealand has proven to be more than just a sponsor in this venture. It has purchased tickets for all its staff. There is a large and attractive Games Information

Centre in the B.N.Z. premises. This centre caters for games information, the sale of coins and other official souvenirs, and the sale of car park stickers. Part of the savings bank area on the ground floor of the Christchurch Branch will be used by the Games organisation as a central city office during the Games. The 1978 Edmonton Games Organisation will be sharing part of this office.
