New jet due at week-end

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON. Jan. 15.

Air New Zealand’s third DC 10 aircraft, costing about SUS22m, is scheduled to arrive in Auckland from California on Saturday. The purchase is part of a sloom development project by Air New Zealand, begun last year.

The plane will assist with heavy passenger traffic expected across the Tasman after the Commonwealth Games in Christchurch.

It will undergo pre-service modification before it begins a commercial run in February 2. A statement from the airline said a crew training programme was under way in preparation for the arrival of the DCIO.

Twelve captains, 10 first engineers, and eight other engineers will be taken off DCBs for DCIO training before April.
