CABINET TALKS

Bobby calf dispute GV.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 29. The bobby calf killing dispute which threatens to halt production in most North Island freezing works this week will be discussed by the Cabinet tomorrow. The Minister of Labour (Mr Watt) said today that he would bring the matter up at the Cabinet meeting because he thought a most serious situation had been reached. The freezing workers last week delivered an ultimatum that unless Mr Watt appointed an arbitrator to resolve a pay dispute with meat industry employers, they would stop bobby calf killing from tomorrow morning. In Auckland today Mr Watt said: “I cannot appoint an arbitrator. Unless both parties agree to the dispute going to arbitration, the Minister has no power to force them to under the present act. “The employers have refused to take the dispute to arbitration.”
