“Twaddle”
Sir, —It is difficult to find a basis for the criticism levelled at Mr Mentiplay by K. A. and W. J. Gough. If the remit in question referred to by your correspondents as “the criticised remit” called for discussion on such related aspects as disruption of society, increasing youthful crime, drug-taking and bad industrial relations—in short, being responsible members of the community instead of the reverse, then surely the remit merited such discussion instead of being passed with little opposition. An opportunity to obtain clarification from” the promoters should surely have been afforded to all concerned, but according to Mr Mentiplay the meaning:
of the remit was obscure to several delegates, so how could he be expected to interpret or relate it? I for one had been keenly awaiting the outcome of this particular remit. Act in haste and repent at leisure may be the outcome of this vital conference.—Yours, etc., PRESS PRIORITIES PLEASE. July 24, 1973.
