Date and nut loaf

An easily made date and nut loaf which remains moist is made as follows: I cup sugar 1 cup chopped dates lj tablespoons butter 1 level teaspoon bicarbonate of soda 2 cups plain flour 2 teaspoons baking powder Pinch salt 1 egg 1 cup chopped walnuts

Method: Combine sugar, dates, and butter in saucepan. Dissolve bi-carbonate of soda in 1 cup of water and add. Heat until butter is melted then blend in the flour sieved with salt and baking powder alternately with the beaten egg, beating after each addition, finally add walnuts and after mixing well pour into a well greased loaf tin and bake at 350 for one hour.
