SHOOTING TRIAL
Eight reach standard
Eight shooters In the skeet event and five in the trap contest attained the qualifying standard In the first preliminary trap shooting trial at Yaldhurst yesterday. Several trials will be held during the next few months before a New Zealand team is selected to compete in the world chamElonships in Australia in Novemer. The selectors will also take the results into account when nominating for the Commonwealth Games team.
Yesterday, marksmen fired -at 100 targets and had to break 75 to qualify. G. Denning (Hawke's Bay) and P. Askey (Christchurch) were the only competitors to qualify In both events. The Canterbury skeet champion, K. Isitt (Belfast) easily surpassed the standard in his spe cialist event, scoring 84.
