GIPPSLAND INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED EDUCATION P.O. Box 42, Churchill, Victoria, Australia, 3842 Applications are invited for the following positions: Dean of Education A Dean of Education Is to be appointed immediately to establish and lead a new School of Education within the Institute. Additional academic and support staff will be appointed later this year and early in 1974 to assist the Dean in the development of teacher education programmes and in the planning of buildings and material facilities for the School. It is intended that the first intake of teacher education students will be accepted in 1975. The Institute plans to offer programmes in both primary and secondary education, using resources of the School of Education and the other Schools of the Institute. Dean of Social Sciences The Institute currently offers three : year diplomas in Arts and Business. With the introduction of degree programmes from 1974 and the establishment of teacher education programmes in 1975, further major development is planned in the social sciences, humanities and business areas to cater for both full-time and part-time (including external) students preparing for primary and secondary teaching. GENERAL: In each case, the Dean, as Head of School, will be responsible to the Director of the Institute for all aspects of the academic work of his School. His duties will include the planning and development of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, the direction of academic staff, allocation of resources within the School and the planning of buildings and material facilities for the School. With the Director and other Heads of Schools and Divisions, he will play a leading part in the development, staffing, planning and administration of the Institute. Applicants for each position should possess high level academic qualifications in an appropriate discipline and should have had significant senior level experience in tertiary education. SALARY: The salary for the position of Dean is currently $A15,368 per annum. This is subject to the addition of a recent national wage increase and a substantial increase recommended by an independent tribunal. It is expected that the new salary will be announced before an appointment is made to either position. CONDITIONS: Conditions include a superannuation scheme, provision for recreation leave and study leave and an attractive staff housing scheme to provide finance for building or buying a home. Fares for the appointee and his family and reasonable removal costs will be paid. Assistance is provided if required in obtaining temporary housing.
