Minerals found
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) HOUSTON (Texas), June 14. i Proof that the “treasure! maps” from Skylab will leadto valuable mineral deposits) —and perhaps create a pros-) pectors’ boom—was revealed; today while the astronauts prepared to conduct the last) Earth Resources Experiments Programme (E.R.E.P.) pass of their mission. The Martin Marietta Corporation, it was learned, had located significant limestone and copper deposits in Florida and Arizona through the use of Apollo photographs and film from the Earth Resources Technology Satellite. The E.R.T.S. satellite, now circling the earth, is sending back similar information to; Sky'ab although its instru-l ments are not quite as ad-) 1 vanced. The discovery of the deposits by the large aerospace ; firm, which also has interests in aggregates, is believed to 1 be the first practical applica- 1 tion of soace photographs taken by E.R.T.S. in search- ■ ing—and finding—the actual • riches in the Earth.
