Top player upset in squash championship
J. Rosevear, the top player for the Sumner Club, has caused the major upset of the men’s A grade squash rackets competition He defeated the top ranked Canterbury player, D. R. Preston (Christchurch I), in four exhilarating games, noteworthy for some excellent retrieving and driving by both players. Tills fine effort by Rosevear enabled his team to gain a draw on matches with the Christchurch side, but it lost on a count-back of games, 9-6. Other teams to win were Collegians, University and High School Old Boys 11. Points after seven rounds are: High School Old Boys I 42. High School Old Boys II 40. University 40. Christchurch II 36, Christchurch 1 32, Sumner 28. Collegians 28, Christchurch HI 20, and Burnside 14. Old Boys I had its lead reduced to two points when it was edged out by its second team. 8 games to 6. Here again there was an upset, with the defeat of the promising L. Skurr by R. McCutcheon in straight games. McCutcheon is now back to the form he showed two seasons ago before making an extended over-
