Looking east along the Carlton Mill Road of 67 years ago — before the road was widened, before the tram tracks were laid and long before they were taken up again. The viewpoint is a little west of the frontage of the present Millbrook Flats. The bridge in the foreground is over an outlet from springs which rise near the Rossall Street shops and which are now fed into the Avon River through the Millbrook Reserve, behind where the photographer stood. Rhodes Street joins the road from the left just beyond the bridge, and Hewitt Streets enters beyond the young man with an umbrella. The photograph was brought! into “The Press” by Mr; K. Lewington, of Carlton! Mill Road.
