“Hit-and-miss” restoration
<N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 1. Visiting New Zealand for a two-week “busman’s holiday,” Mr A. P. C. Adamson, chairman of the Canadian Arts Council, is interested in the way New Zealand deals with the preservation of historic sites and buildings. “In Canada, the Government spends millions of dollars on restoring buildings, but the method is totally nit and miss,” he said. “The Federal Government is attempting to take an inventory of historic buildings, but there are so many the task is gigantic. “As an architect, I am hoping to drive about Auckland to see just how the New Zealand Historic Places Trust looks after its properties,” Mr Adamson said.
