Wrens for Singapore

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 2. The first Wrens to be posted overseas since World War II head for a two-year assignment in Singapore next Wednesday. Leading Wren Anne Ashby, of Colac Bay, Southland, and Wren Nora Te Ua, of Te Teko, near Whakatane, are communications ratings and will be attached to the A.N.Z.U.K. communications headquarters. The decision to send two Wrens was made by the Defence Department in July, and a number volunteered. The two selected are efficient at cryptography, and teleprinter and phone operation. Anne, aged 20 next month, will be saying good-bye to her fiance, Radioman Gary Hine, who is stationed in H.M.N.Z.S. Irirangi, at Waiouru. Nora, aged 21 in April, leaves her boyfriend, L.A.C. David Clements, at the R.N.Z.A.F. base at Shelly Bay.
