Rowing visit

The president of the controlling body of world rowing, Mr T. Keller, of Switzerland, will attend the Auckland provincial championships at Lake Karapiro later this month. Mr Keller, on a visit to the Southern Hemisphere for the first time, is expected to arrive in Auckland on February 17 and to stay for eight days. He will have left the country before the national title series at Dunedin.

Lake Karapiro has been suggested as a possible venue for the 1978 world championships and, in anticipation of Mr Keller’s arrival, work is already well advanced to bring the course up to international standards. To enable six crews to race at once, seven lane ropes, are being laid the full length of the 2000metre course, the wires being supported by buoys. All races will begin from held starts and the judges will be equipped with video cameras to clarify close finishes.
