New Zealand’s lamb sales i on the North American market for the year ended October 31 last totalled 35,500,000 lb, an increase of 40 per cent on sales for the previous year. This information was given to the New Zealand Press Asociation today by the general manager of the Meat Development Company (Devco), Mr P. Wakelin. Mr Wakelin was commenting on a reported remark of the president of the American Meat Importers’ Council (Mr J, E, Ward) that New Zealand was exporting about 140,0001 b of lamb a year to North America, which he hoped would rise to 2m lb a year by 1980.

A correction since issued has amended Mr Ward’s reported remarks to read that New Zealand was exporting iabout 1.400.000 lamb carcases a year to North America and that Mr Ward hoped that by 1980 the figure would rise to two million carcases a year.
