TINWALD SALE

Prices for two-tooth ewes at the Tinwald sale on Wednesday were the highest they have been for at least 20 years and double the price paid last year, according to a local stock auctioneer. Among the two-tooths offered was an exceptional line of big framed Border Corriedales from Cave, which met with very strong competition. The top pen of 137 made $22.10. and another pen of 128 made $21.75. A pen of late-shorn two-shear Border Corriedale ewes from the same vendor made $14,25, and an attractive line of 155 Romneys made $l7. There was a large yarding of store sheep and the market was followed by a large bench of buyers, including some from Central Otago, who pushed the market for store lambs up 30 to 50 cents. The ewe lambs were good buying compared with wether lambs. There was improved inquiry and better prices for the good yarding of adult sheep, prices being up about 50 cents. There was another large yarding of rape ewes, which met with a ready market. Prime sheep There was a small yarding in this section, witli improved prices for all classes. Best prime lambs made to $13.40; good medium butchers’ lambs from $lO 20 to $11.50; others from $9 to $lO Heavy hoggets to $13.50; medium hoggets, $11.30 to $12.50; light from $lO to $lO.BO. Best heavy butchers’ ewes, with good fleece, to $10.60; medium from $8.20 to $9; lighter weights, $7.50 to $B. Store sheep A big yarding of wether lambs came under keen competition from a large bench of buyers, with prices firming at (the end of the sale. Best Romney Wether lambs made from $8 to $8.60, with one! outstanding pen making $9. i Medium Romneys from $7 to[ $7.60; small from $6 to 56.40.1 Down-cross lambs from $6.80 to| $7.50, with small shorn lambs: down to $5.

Ewe Lambs.— There was a very attractive line of Corriedale ewe lambs from Central Otago which made $11.30. A few pens of Romney ewe lambs met with a disappointing sale in relation to wether lamb prices. The best of them made $9.50.

Adult ewes.— Adult ewes met a stronger sale than last week, and prices could be quoted as up by 50 to 80 cents. The best one and two-year Romney awes made from $9.60 to $l2 40.
