Mr Kingston said there had been marked development brought about by steady subdivision into 20-acre blocks] devoted to many and varied livestock and horticultural [ activities such as broiler-! chicken, turkey and pig fat-] tening units. There had also been; marked berry-fruit produc-| tion and other intensive vege-I table cropping under spray] irrigation. Both had been boosted by the establishment! of Watties’ canneries and! allied services at Hornby. : Spray irrigation had also fostered the expansion of cash-crop farming and town milk supply dairying. There had been a continued trend in the establishment of horse-training and breeding farms.
