Official visit by Mayor

The Mayor and Mayoress of Timaru (Mr and Mrs C. R. Hervey) will pay their first official visit to Christchurch this month. They will be given a mayoral luncheon during their three-day visit. They will arrive in Christchurch on February 20, and have tea with the Mayor and Mayoress of Christchurch (Mr and Mrs N. G. Pickering), end the heads of the City Council departments and their wives.

On February 21, Mr and Mrs Hervey will visit the Commonwealth Games complex at Queen Elizabeth II Park.

They will be entertained to lunch bv Mr and Mrs Pickering, and city councillors and their wives will be present. In the evening, Mr and Mrs Hervey will attend a meeting of the executive of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee. On February 22. Mr Hervey will inspect the City Council departments, while Mrs Hervey will attend an informal gathering of representatives of Christchurch women’s organisations arranged by Mrs Pickering.

Dr H. G. Stever, director of the United States National Science Foundation, who visited Christchurch last December, has been appointed science adviser to President Nixon. His new duties will include chairmanship of the United StatesRussia Commission on Scientific and Technical Co-opera-tion.
