Hills Road

Sir,—-On several occasions this year I have rung the council about the condition of Hills Road and recently wrote to the City Engineer, who has not even had the courtesy to reply. Approximately "four years ago new guttering was put down; then a drain laid, and the road still has not been sealed. For cyclists and motor-cyclists it is a real hazard as one is compelled to ride near the middle of the road to avoid the countless potholes. I am i now faced with the expense;

; of a broken axle after hitting > I a particularly bad hole and' ■ find this an added insult after! : the family paid rates on the ' same property for 52 years.— : Yours, etc., i RELUCTANT POTHOLER. 1 November 14, 1972. [The Town Clerk (Mr H. B. Hayes) replies: “I am sorry , there has been some delay ' in replying to this letter. The 1 City Engineer has advised me . that he has had one written j complaint from a local resii dent, dated October 27, and . that the hot mix surface on this section of Hills Road has > been delayed because of con- . tinuing settlement in a r trench. Until it can be . assured that the settlement is ■ reasonably complete it is not ; practicable to hot mix the : surface since there is no tidy • way of patching this without • major works. It is hoped that i the surfacing can be done ■lnext week.”]
