Vacation work at Templeton
Sir, —I wish to support “Te Be or Not to Be” in regard to vacation work at Templeton Hospital, though I do not blame the nursing staff. My own daughter had worked at Templeton for three weeks in the August holidays and planned to do a further eight weeks from December 2. At the last moment, a letter was received stating the ban on staff vacancies by P.S.A. was still in effect and work not available. This leaves one wondering: was! the staff in the past employed for the benefit of the patients, or to relieve permanent staff while on holiday? Surely there has been a large expense of taxpayers’ money on casual or holiday employers, not particularly needed; or are the patients the ones to suffer with not (sufficient staff? Not to mention the job satisfaction the student employee gets from this work and the oppor- 1
tunity it offers the student to find out for herself if this is really the type of work she wants for full-time employment.—Yours, etc., BAFFLED MOTHER. Lobum. December 8. 1972.
