Labelling of poisons
Manufacturers of weedicides and pesticides will be asked to improve the labelling of poisons as the result of a remit passed by the North Canterbury provincial executive of Federated Farmers on Friday. The remit, from the Dunsandel branch, said that manufacturers should say clearly on the container the antidote for the chemical involved; where applicable show very clearly on the label by a recognised poison warning that the contents were dangerous; and improve the general durability of such labels.
A remit from the Dunsandel branch that legislation be introduced to ensure that those in charge of all private and State exotic forests assume the responsibility for containing them within the boundaries set aside for this purpose was lost. Executive members instead decided to ask a representative from the Forest Service to come to the next executive meeting to discuss the problem, and then perhaps to reconsider the remit.
