Legal action on access
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Dec. 10. The Guardians of the Reserve at Queenstown will seek leave from the AttorneyGeneral to institute proceedings against the Minister of Lands, “because of the Minister’s decision to deny the public access to Home Creek.”
A member of the organis-i ation’s group in Wellington, Dr I. A. M. Prior, said that the portion of the creek concerned ran through an area now designated as a hotel zone, and on which Southern Lakes Hotel, Ltd, planned to build a 10-storey hotel. The public would be denied access to the part of the creek running through the land. Dr Prior said there had been a long dispute about the I use of the reserve, which had I been made over to the people of New Zealand in 1865, and had become Crown Land in 1875. His organisation had con-| Tested the use of another ;part of the reserve, and the i Town and Country Planning > Appeal Board had decided the i block should remain as a reserve. Part of Home Creek :ran through this land. 1 The creek was one of the best spawning grounds for 'trout in the Lake Wakatipu 'area, said Dr Prior.
