Town Hall loan filled

The Christchurch City Council’s $400,000 loan issue, mainly for final payments on the Town Hall, had been fully subscribed.

“Such an early filling of a loan — unusual at present — was made possible because of two substantial investments,” said the Mayor (Mr N. G. Pickering). “These were $lOO,OOO by N.Z. Mutual Funds, and a larger amount through the good offices of a well-known Christchurch family, which, over the years, has continuously supported the city. “The council is most grateful, not only for the practical example and public spirit of these two subscribers, but also to all those who so willingly supported this vital

project. “I am confident that a similar spirit and support will also make a success of its issue in February next year for the Queen Elizabeth II Park stadium,” Mr Pickering said.
