Trading conditions on the United Kingdom market were quiet for most carcase meats last week; however, prices at Smithfield were generally firm, and pitchings of New Zealand lamb were somewhat heavier than in recent weeks, and cleared at slightly improved values, the Meat Board reports. Quotations for New Zealand lamb were:—

Lamb cuts in cartons met a quiet inquiry, though prices remained firm:— Legs . 52.9-54.9 —0.25 Long loins . . 49.9-51.9 —0,70 Short fores 31.3 +2.30 There was a steady inquiry for light supplies of New Zealand mutton, at the following prices:— Ewes— 43lb and under 23.5-24.4 n.a. 49 to 561b .. 22.5-23.5 n.a. 57 to 641b .. 21.5-22.1 n.a. Wethers— 431b and under 27.0-28.4 -0.05 49 to 561b 25.8-26.6 —0.55 57 to 641b 23.5-24.4 —0.85 Light pitchings of New Zealand boneless beef cuts sold readily at firm prices:— Silversides . 63.8-64.6 n.c. Rumps . 63.6.64.6 —0.10 Topsides . 64.6-65.6 +0.10 Striploins . 93.0-94.0 —0.40 Conversion from U.K. pence to N.Z. cents was made at the rate quoted by the Reserve Bank on Thursday, of $1.9598 equals £1.00.
